What's the best occasion for breakfast in bed?

Breakfast in bed The occasion doesn't always have to be romantic - breakfast in bed is also a great idea for any days. However, as some time goes into the preparation, people often save breakfast in bed for special days.

Couples can enjoy breakfast in bed on their anniversary, but as we said, breakfast in bed isn't just for couples. You can also enjoy it on holidays for friends or family such as Mother's Day, Father's Day, or a family member or roommate's birthday. After all, who doesn't enjoy having breakfast from the comfort of their own bed?

What are the benefits of breakfast?

We often hear that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but is it really true? For a healthy breakfast, it's not so important that you eat something, but what you eat. Breakfast can help us recharge our body's batteries. Though it might not seem like it, our bodies do quite a bit at night. For example, cell renewal takes place at night, the brain processes the day's events and makes new connections.

This is the reason that our batteries are empty in the morning and need to be recharged. So, a healthy breakfast is a very good tip to wake up quickly in the morning.

What nutrients help the body most?

Breakfast should therefore be a mixture of carbohydrates, protein and fibre. These can help us recharge our batteries and improve our performance. Foods such as whole bread or oatmeal are great for this. These can be combined with protein-rich foods such as cheese, quark or yoghurt.

Breakfast also increases our ability to concentrate. The brain needs energy, which is why a breakfast with lots of carbohydrates is such a good idea. In addition, protein provides the building blocks for the neurotransmitters that fuel our brain.

Last but not least, a healthy breakfast reduces the release of stress hormones. Breakfast gives the body the opportunity to prepare for the day and get off to a relaxed start.

Breakfast in bed: recipes

As already mentioned, it's recommended to start the day off in a healthy way with plenty of carbohydrates, protein and fibre. On special occasions, you can also take a more relaxed approach to a healthy start to the day and opt for a few sweet or savoury sins. However, this shouldn't become a habit!

We've put together a few delicious recipes to inspire you to start the day with a tasty breakfast.

Breakfast fruit bake

A baked good for breakfast may sound a little unusual at first, however, we're not talking about a greasy and calorie-heavy pie here, but rather a healthy alternative to it. For this healthy breakfast bake you'll need:

  • 100g oatmeal
  • 1 ripe banana
  • Fresh fruit of your choice
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 eggs
  • Coconut or chopped nuts
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground vanilla
  • 200 ml milk

Preparation: Mash the banana and mix the eggs and milk in with the banana. Then add the spices listed above and the honey. Then add the oats into the mix. Put the mix into a baking dish and sprinkle in the coconut flakes and chopped fruit, then bake in the oven at 180 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.

Hearty Breakfast - Cheddar Mushroom Omelette

For those who prefer a hearty breakfast in the morning, we recommend trying the following recipe at home. For four tasty omelettes, you'll need the following ingredients:

  • 300g brown mushrooms
  • 1 shallot
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 eggs
  • 100 ml milk
  • 1 pinch turmeric powder
  • 90g cheddar cheese
  • 10g chervil

Preparation: Slice the mushrooms and dice the shallot. Heat some oil in the pan and fry both lightly. Then put them aside. Whisk the milk with the eggs. Then add the turmeric, salt and pepper. Pour ¼ of the egg mixture into a slightly heated pan and spread it evenly. Then add ¼ of the cheddar and the shallot & mushrooms. Then pluck a few leaves from the chervil. Repeat the whole process until the rest of the egg mixture has been used up.

Breakfast in bed: Movie Ideas

Who doesn't love this? Lying in bed for a few more minutes and watching a film or series to wake up (provided you have enough time for it). On days off, it's no problem to give yourself a little extra time in the morning, because missed sleep is hard to make up for. Breakfast in bed movie classics include Breakfast At Tiffany's, of course.

A few other recommendations for easy-to-digest films in the morning are:

  • Ratatouille
  • Kiss the Cook
  • Matilda
  • Groundhog Day
  • Honey! I shrunk the kids

Breakfast in bed: table or tray

Of course, a proper breakfast in bed also requires the right equipment. Which breakfast-in-bed table or breakfast-in-bed tray is best for this? Using your mattress as a table isn't exactly a good idea, because crumbs and stains on the bed linen can quickly ruin your restful start to the day.

So we recommend buying a bed tray. In addition to being useful as trays for breakfast in bed, they can also be used as serving trays, as they have retractable legs. If you don't need the tray, you can use it at your workplace as a tray for your coffee or simply as decoration in other rooms.

These types of tray are available in a wide variety of colours and shapes. If you'd like yours elegant and stylish, you can opt for an all-white tray. Trays are also available in the country house style and are made of light wood or bamboo. You can match the colour of the tray to your bedroom or favourite bed linen.
