From the design of a revolutionary breathable wool baby sleeping bag to the creation of eco-responsible duvets, pillows and bed linen: our approach to optimising your sleep...
When little Carmen was born, our lives changed forever. One of the first things we realised was the importance of sleep. For all three of us.
Babies sleep more than 14 hours a day during their first year (but not always at night!). That's why it's so important to provide them with a warm, safe and comfortable place to sleep.
That's why we founded Zizzz.
Our friends and family gave us some baby sleeping bags for Carmen. We were surprised to see that they were all made of polyester.
Have you ever slept in a cheap hotel in polyester bedding? You spend the whole night tossing and turning. First you're too hot, then too cold. Imagine how your child feels, having to sleep in a polyester sleeping bag for over 5,000 hours a year.
It's actually very likely that your child is sleeping in polyester. Polyester is a plastic fibre derived from petroleum. Chemical engineers didn't invent polyester so that you could sleep well in it, but designers use it simply because it's cheap.
At Zizzz, we only use 100% natural and renewable materials to give your child the best possible night's sleep.
We believe that our child, and yours, also have the right to sustainable development in their lives. And the right to a comfortable night's sleep.
You certainly know that sleep is crucial to your child's brain development. The right body temperature will ensure comfortable sleep.
A cold baby wakes up easily. A body temperature that is too high is also dangerous for a baby. Scientists believe it increases the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Zizzz uses materials that help your baby's body to regulate its temperature. A baby who feels comfortable will sleep more peacefully, more soundly and for longer.
We live in Switzerland and love to ski. We use woollen fabrics for skiing. This gave us an idea.
It's no secret that skiers and athletes use wool for its unique qualities in extreme weather conditions.
Wool keeps you warm when it's cold and cool when it's hot. It also keeps your body dry when you're exercising. Eureka! The perfect solution to Carmen's sleepless nights.
The idea was just the beginning.
Finding the right solution was our real challenge. Are there any lightweight, washable wool fillings for baby sleeping bags? We searched and searched, and finally found just what we needed right next door. A wonderful fibre called Swisswool.
Swisswool is a natural, patented filling made from 88% new Swiss wool and 12% vegetable fibres. This filling has the unique characteristics of wool and is washable. We're sure your baby will love it as much as our Carmen.
Replacing polyester with Swisswool was the first step. But sleeping peacefully and safely isn't just about the stuffing in the sleeping bag. When babies sleep, their delicate skin touches the inside of the sleeping bag. That's why we wanted to use the purest material available.
Replacing normal cotton with organic cotton was an obvious choice. Organic cotton has no traces of chemical fertilisers or pesticides, so there's no need to worry about allergies. At Zizzz, we only use organic cotton. But that's just one of the improvements we've made.
We produce our baby sleeping bags in Europe to ensure that no child labour is involved in their manufacture. We don't want our products to travel around the world twice before reaching you and your baby. It's a waste of energy.
At Zizzz we like sleeping bags to work well. And we think they should look good too. We've teamed up with some sensational designers to create our baby sleeping bags.
No boring or classic baby sleeping bags! Take a look at our products and see for yourself.
We have sleeping bags for newborns (0-6 months), for slightly older babies (6-24 months), for toddlers (2-4 years) and for children up to the age of six (4-6 years).
Wool duvet and down duvet - Our next step as a company
We took our customers' advice and quickly added woollen duvets to our product range. Since we started making baby sleeping bags with woollen filling, woollen duvets were the next logical step for us.
Like our baby sleeping bags, our woollen duvets are made in Switzerland from organic cotton and pure new wool from sheep reared in the Swiss Alps. This means our duvets are extremely breathable, keeping you cool and sweat-free in the heat, but warm and cosy in the cold.
We offer the most popular sizes in Switzerland: 140x200, 160x210, 200x210 and 240x240 cm.
We know how popular down duvets are, so now we've got them too. For all our down products, we use certified organic cotton and the best European goose or duck down on the market. Down is extremely light and airy, but it's also mother nature's best insulator and therefore a good choice for those who tend to get cold at night.
One of the key differences between our down duvets and other products on the market is the level of effort we put into ensuring that our down comes from ethically responsible sources. Every down product we sell carries the DownPass label. This label carries out regular spot checks to ensure that our geese and ducks are not force-fed or plucked alive.
Our down duvets are a big hit with customers! Our 160x210 and 240x240 down duvets are now among our best-sellers.
Duvets for children
At Zizzz, we want to help everyone get a good night's sleep! That's why we also offer duvets for children. Our wool duvets for children are also made here in Switzerland. They are made from a soft organic cotton cover and Swisswool filling.
We offer the following sizes for children: 100x135 and 140x170.
Wool pillows and down pillows
Of course, you need a good pillow to go with your duvet. For our wool lovers, we offer breathable wool pillows, made from organic cotton and the same virgin sheep's wool as our fantastic duvets. Our wool pillows are a little firmer than our down pillows, but they keep your head cool and dry thanks to their breathability. Our wool pillows are available in sizes 40x60, 50x70, 60x60, 60x70, 65x65, 60x90 and 65x100.
For those who prefer down, we offer the softest down pillows you can find. We now have goose and duck down pillows. Our down pillows are so soft you'll feel like you're resting your head on a cloud at night. They are available in sizes 40x60, 50x70, 60x60, 65x65, 60x90 and 65x100 cm.
Of course, we also have matching pillowcases in our online shop.
Organic cotton bed linen
To complete our product range, we've added duvet covers, pillowcases and fitted sheets in GOTS-certified organic cotton. Our organic cotton bed sheets are available in percale and satin.
We offer covers to match the dimensions of our duvets and pillows, such as 160x210, 200x210 and 240x240, as well as fitted sheets in sizes 90x200, 160x200 and 180x200 cm.
Soft organic cotton pyjamas
As part of our mission to help the whole family get a good night's sleep, we have organic cotton pyjamas for women, children and babies. The breathable organic cotton we use for our pyjamas is some of the softest you'll find and is sure to help you feel relaxed and comfortable in bed, helping you get the best sleep possible.
We do our best to offer the right size for almost every child. We have pyjamas for newborns (60cm), pyjamas for six-month-olds (70cm) and pyjamas for one-year-olds. We also have pyjamas for toddlers and pyjamas for children up to around the age of five. We also have pyjamas for women in small, medium and large sizes. We've used some of our favourite designs for our pyjamas, such as Lucky Star, Red Balloon and Frog Ragnar.
A cute little cuddly toy for your cute little baby
Our cuddly toys are the perfect bedtime companions for newborns and babies. They stimulate your baby's sense of touch and encourage the development of fine motor skills.
Our cuddly toys are made to last, from soft organic cotton. Because they are organic, they do not cause allergic reactions.
We also offer simpler, cloth-shaped comforters for newborns. And because we're here in Switzerland, we have a cow-shaped cuddly toy for bigger babies!
